Studies and comparison

Sweep a variable, find the peak-Isp mix, and compare recipes side by side.

Studies

Studies work on the recipe currently on the Formulation page. There are three kinds:

Study What changes
Mix: vary one ingredient One ingredient’s percentage. The others are scaled to keep their proportions.
Chamber pressure Chamber pressure, across the range you set.
Nozzle expansion ratio Exit area over throat area.

Choose the range, the number of points, and what to plot:

  • Specific impulse
  • Characteristic velocity c*
  • Chamber temperature
  • Density impulse
  • Molecular weight
  • Gamma
  • Optimum expansion ratio

Run study draws the chart. The data table sits underneath, and Export CSV saves it.

Finding the peak

Find peak Isp locates the best percentage of the chosen ingredient within the range.

Look at the shape of the curve as well as the peak. A flat peak is forgiving of weighing errors; a sharp one is not.

Compare

Add to Compare on the Formulation page, or Add current recipe on the Compare page, puts a recipe into the comparison. Up to four recipes are shown side by side, with differences shown against the first column.
