High-power rocketry

Software and electronics for people who build their own.

RocketSalvo makes tools for designing and flying high-power rockets: RustPEP for propellant evaluation, and MAD, a magnetic apogee detector now in development.

RustPEP Formulation page: a searchable ingredient list, a three-ingredient recipe, chamber and exit pressure fields, and result tiles for specific impulse, characteristic velocity, chamber temperature, density, gamma and molecular weight.

RustPEP

Propellant evaluation for rocket motor design

A complete rewrite of the classic PROPEP program in Rust, with a modern Windows interface. Enter a propellant recipe and get chamber temperature, specific impulse, characteristic velocity and combustion products, ready to carry into BurnSim.

  • Chamber temperature, Isp, c*, density and gamma for any recipe
  • Library of 1,000+ ingredients, plus your own
  • Mix, pressure and nozzle studies with charts
  • Burn-rate fitting from BATES test firings

MAD

Magnetic Apogee Detector

A modern interpretation of Robert Galejs’ magnetometer-only apogee detector. MAD senses the rocket’s orientation against the Earth’s magnetic field to detect apogee. It is prototype hardware under development and is not flight qualified.

  • Magnetometer-only apogee sensing
  • Hardware arm jumper that firmware cannot bypass
  • On-board flight logging with USB-C retrieval
  • Rev A prototype: not flight qualified, not for sale

MAD in development

An apogee detector designed around its safety states.

Arming requires the physical jumper, stable power and capacitor readings, a qualification delay and a post-arm inhibit. A single firing pulse is followed by lockout until reset.

  1. SAFEARM jumper absent. Outputs held off.
  2. QUALIFYJumper present. Power checked through a qualification delay.
  3. ARMEDBank charges. Orientation watched after a post-arm inhibit.
  4. FIRINGA single firing pulse.
  5. LOCKOUTNo further firing until reset.

FAULTAny detected fault forces this state from any other.

In developmentRev A is prototype hardware. It is not flight qualified and not for sale.

How we work

Built the way a flyer would want it built.

Honest numbers

RustPEP reports ideal thermochemical predictions and says so. Burn rate comes from your own test firings, not from a guess.

Safety in hardware

MAD’s arm jumper sits in the charge and fire paths themselves. Firmware cannot bypass it.

Credit where it is due

Both products build on published work: the PEP program, NASA CEA data, and Robert Galejs’ magnetic apogee detector.
